    What is a customs code?

A customs code (commodity code, tariff number) says which class goods belong to in customs clearance. It decides the duties, taxes, restrictions and statistics that apply, and every import and export declaration needs one.

    How is a code built?

The code narrows down from left to right. Take 0203 19 55 10:

The start of a code is enough: 0203 shows the heading and everything under it. A word search looks through the descriptions in Finnish, Swedish and English.

Where does the data come from?

The data is from Finnish Customs' Fintaric tariff service, and the changes Customs publishes are fetched regularly. Duties and taxes on goods can be calculated with Fintaric's duty calculator, and import restrictions per code are in Fintaric's goods tree. The search is a guide only; Finnish Customs gives binding decisions on how goods are classified.
